In Between You and I addresses my relationships with both my parents, using my mother's archive and a recent image of my father — two different temporalities, two different ways of knowing them. But the work isn't about them; it's about what happens to me in the space between. I write to my mother asking who she was before I existed, and to my father, grieving a presence I've never had — and in reaching for them both, I lose myself. Text and images layer to hold that loss, that displacement: belonging nowhere and everywhere at once.
